But you just have to accept Ramp is naturally good against certain type decks. For standard, An on curve R/B Dragons can kill by Turn 5. Play ensnaring bridge.oh wait that's modern. Add some disruption on top of this, which the deck really can't work around easily, and you have a winning strategy that isn't mono-red. You need to get on the ground running, and early, playing threats that are difficult for the deck to deal with early (Warden of the First Tree, Hangarback, Mantis Rider, Stormchaser Mage, etc), or can close the game extremely quickly in the mid-game (Siege Rhino being the big one). You can't counter every ramp spell, and the long game vastly prefers the player with World Breaker, Ugin, Ulamog, Kozilek, and Ugin's Sanctum. Now, if you're talking about control options, then you need to understand that Ramp simply beats control. Mantis Rider has been a great card against the deck from it's inception, or any very aggressive creature. Play around it if need be, or build with it in mind. Don't concern yourself with Kozilek's Return too much. Attack the Ramp and the "mid game" of the deck. The deck is fairly simple to hate out of the game entirely, to be honest. Kozilek's Return and Worldbreaker certainly *help*, but they don't completely fix the problem. I've had no end to the hearing Jeskai players spew how oppressive the deck is, and yet it has always had (And will always have) very bad match-ups that are difficult to shore up. People are just unwilling to actually rework decks to beat it. Honestly, even post OGW the deck isn't nearly as brutal as people think it is. The new Prowess deck can easily beat Ramp with any number of normal openers (And a turn 2 Stormchaser mage will wreak havoc on the deck). If you can land a Mantis Rider turn 3 into a duress turn 4 and take out their only 4 mana ramp spell you will likely win. Dark Jeskai gets Crackling Doom as well, and a board of Mantis Rider + Random dude is a very quick clock that is shortened by Doom (And tempos the deck out hard). That said, turn 3 & 4 Mantis Rider with holding up a Disdainful Stroke/Ojutai's Command for an early Worldbreaker is extremely nice. If you are a Jeskai player, you are an utter dog in the match-up, however. There just isn't a clean way aside ffrom Ulamog to deal with it. One creature that has been a thorn in the deck's side from the beginning, and likely will continue to be so, is Hangarback Walker. It's fairly aggressive and can go very wide with its threat, much of which simply aren't affected by Kozilek's Return on the "normal". Take out their creatures, and they simply can't win (And leaning on Ugin often isn't good enough for the deck).Ībzan can give the deck a run for its money, even with Kozilek's return. You only needed one before, but with the addition of Worldbreaker and the like, you need to be a bit more aggressive. Now, if you're in black I highly suggest something along the lines of 4 Duress, and 2-3 Inifinite obliterations be brought in against them. If you don't play anything meaningful to the board, you will just lose to the eventuality of the deck. It's also not just good enough to disrupt their plan and not do anything on your front. Keep in mind that the deck more than anything else punishes greedy mana bases, so the 4+ color good stuff decks simply don't hold a candle to it. I've played it a ton, and the number of times my opponent has duressed the wrong spell or focused their energy on the wrong cards is significant. This is the best course of action from experience. Kolaghan's Command to destroy Hedron Archive and discard a card seems delicious. Quote from hoser2 ✼ounter or Duress the four mana ramp and kill them quickly.
